Luke Sciberras’s work is steered by the belief artists do not go out into the landscape, but into it. He is inspired by environmentalists, First Nations concepts of place and his own memories — creating striking impressions of the landscape that linger long after first encountering them.

In this elegant etching, his sense of place is clear. Like sketching someone’s character, Sciberras carves out the land’s texture. Despite the monochromatic palette, there is a sense of life. Sciberras is a multi-time Wynne Prize, Hadley’s Art Prize and Tattersalls Landscape finalist. He is represented in the collections of the Art Gallery of NSW and Parliament House Collection Canberra, among others.
