Brian Seidel was a highly accomplished artist. His former teacher, the acclaimed Jeffrey Smart once described Seidels work as evocations of moments of rapture. That said however, his work could also be startlingly quiet - moments of reflection struck clear.
Evening Balcony is an example of the former. In it Seidel draws a balcony at dusk. The doors are flung open, a silhouette takes in the view, distant hills heave over the horizon and light falls in like unfastened hair. Like the houses lungs, the balcony is full of a summer breeze.
Seidel is represented in regional and public collections across Australia. A friend of Brain Dunlop, he is considered a significant Australian artist. For collectors of prints and studies of the human body, Evening Balcony is a grounding find.
