Garry Shead' s encounter with Dante' s 700 year-old poem The Divine Comedy involved grief, anger and triumph. What finally emerged, was a gripping and sensitivity consideration of the text. In this work he charts a moment of struggle, flushed in chiaroscuro lighting.
Collected by all public institutions, Shead has won the Archibald and Dobell prizes. Frolicking in the serious and profane, his work is at once poetic and interrogative. It will ignite collections of Australian Modern art, as well as all in need of inspiration.
