Through the works of Maggie Stein, the world appears wonderfully textured. Originally from Goulburn and now based in Sydney’s Inner West, Stein has become well known for her linocut and mixed-media practice, which she uses to represent the world around her as seen through her eyes. Working across different genres and mediums, each of Stein’s works emerges as a distinct reflection of her unique artistic vision.
In ‘Falling Water, Beneath the Clouds II’, Stein creates an intricate representation of a waterfall nestled within a forest. Viewed from a distance, the natural scene is rendered with a remarkable attention to texture and detail, with every leaf, droplet and rocky crevice carefully articulated. The result is a richly layered composition that invites the viewer to linger over the countless details of the landscape.
An artist and passionate arts educator, Stein has exhibited across Australia and has been selected as a finalist in several national print prizes, including the Gosford Prize and Fisher’s Ghost Art Prize. In 2026, ‘Falling Water, Beneath the Clouds’ was selected as a finalist in the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Awards at Swan Hill Gallery in Victoria. For collectors of Australian printmaking, Stein’s linocuts offer a distinctive and engaging addition to any collection.
