Migrating from Europe in 1950 from Europe, Strizic became known for his images that reflected the convergence of the Victorian era with modernisation in Melbourne, in his cinematic ‘snapshot’ manner.
Riversdale Road in Camberwell is suspended in time here, observing the suburbs of Melbourne with a surprising quiet solitude. Strizic primarily used a 35mm camera, producing a grainy image, but allowing for more movement to capture fleeting moments. With no formal training in photography, Strizic rejected the static nature of medium format photography that was more common in professional practice. This style of photography practice was not common for the 1960s and is reflective of street photography practices today.
