Abstract expressionist Ann Thomson is one of Australia’s preeminent contemporary artists. Her work is admired for its sense of energy, rhythm and vivacity, having been described by Edmund Capon as by “one of the most interesting and intuitive artists in Australia today.”
In the rousing ‘Visitation’, a burst of colour and form erupts from the white page. Rather than about specific places, Thomson evokes a sense of place – the rush of stimuli experienced when encountering a new vista. ‘Visitation’ is irrepressible and enlivening.
Thomson is the recipient of the Wynne Prize, Geelong Contemporary Art Prize and Tattersall’s Art Prize. She has completed major commissions here and abroad, and is represented across public collections including at the Art Gallery of New South Wales.
For collectors of abstraction and contemporary art, ‘Visitation’ is a breathtaking find.
