Respected Australian artist Julian Twigg works across painting, ceramics and printmaking. His impasto paintings employ broad swathes of colour and form, evoking the emotive undercurrents and shifting conditions of the natural world.

‘Freighter through Palm Trees (Catani Gardens St Kilda)’ is a delectably moody landscape. A bruising sky overhangs a churning ocean, the beginnings of a storm threatening to set in. Across the water moves a freighter huffing smoke while two palm trees, iconic to St Kilda, watch on.

Twigg’s works are held in several regional and tertiary collections, and at the National Gallery of Australia. He was awarded the ANL Maritime Prize in 2007 and the Mayor’s Prize Waverley Art Prize in 2010.
