As one of the founders of Warlukurlangu Artists centre in the Northern Territory, Warlpiri Artist Uni Nampijinpa Martin has community at the heart of her artworks. With an artistic practice ranging from grand acrylic paintings on canvas to small-scale etchings, Nampijinpa Martin has been exhibited since at least 1987, including being part of ‘Aratjara’, the Australian First Nations art exhibition that toured Europe from 1993.

In ‘Warlu manu Jirrama wati’, Nampijinpa Martin employs striking contrasts of yellow, black, and white to accentuate her use of organic shapes. Deceptively simple, this etching is rich in meaning, with the ‘U’ shapes in her artworks often symbolising Nampijinpa and Nangala women. Although small, this work is visually complex.

Outside of her work with the Warlukurlangu Artists centre, Nampijinpa has been exhibited both nationally and internationally in her 40 years of practice. She is represented within the National Gallery of Victoria with two collaborative paintings made with law woman and fellow Warlpiri Artist Dolly Nampijinpa Daniels. For collectors of First Nations art, ‘Warlu manu Jirrama wati’ is a rare and compelling find.
