Through Kate Vella’s artistic lens, the world is imagined vibrantly. Based in the Southern Highlands of NSW and born in Malta, Vella has become renowned for her enigmatic painting practice. Brightly coloured and rich with texture, each of Vella’s works offers a unique perspective on familiar landscapes.

In 'Underneath a Gentle Sky', Vella creates the impression of a mountainous landscape, with a river intersecting the foreground. Through her vivid colour palette and expressive brushstrokes, the world is brought to life through the artist’s eyes.

Vella has exhibited extensively across New South Wales and Australia, presenting her work in both solo and group exhibitions. She has twice been selected as a finalist in the Emerging category of the Ravenswood Australia Women’s Art Prize, in 2020 and 2022, and has been a finalist in several other art prizes.
