James Whitington is a master printmaker and artist. From 1977 to 2000 he worked with a range of distinguished artists including Brett Whiteley, Charles Blackman, Tim Storrier, David and Arthur Boyd. In 1989, he had his first solo exhibition of paintings and monotypes.

‘Hunter Valley Morning’ pictures the landscape in movement. At its centre, like a main artery, Whitington draws a tree around which the river bends and rocks clench. This sense of connectedness is a reflection of the ecosystem, where plant, rock and water are inextricably linked.

Whitington has exhibited widely and is represented in numerous regional and tertiary collections. In 2008, he was featured in ‘Mono Uno’, a travelling survey of the Australian monotype curated by Professor Tom Middlemost. His work is informed by profound technical knowledge, as well as great creative impulse.

For collectors of landscapes and works on paper, take in the view that is ‘Hunter Valley Morning’.
