Deborah Williams’s work centres around animals, considering them beyond their relationships with humans. While her purview is usually dogs, in this woodblock print she captures a bat. Soaring across a brilliantly white page, the bat is enigmatic and bold. Its body glistens, its wings flap, its trajectory unknowable to us.
Williams is a nationally recognised printmaker. In 2010, she won the Swan Hill Print and Drawing Acquisitive Award and a Member Print Commission from the Print Council of Australia in 1994. She is represented at the Art Gallery of New South Wales and the National Gallery of Australia. You would be batty not to collect this beauty.
