Accomplished printmaker Joel Wolter’s work are reminders of transience. He is interested in the potency of a single moment — perhaps dusk or dawn, where in stillness the movement of time suddenly reveals itself.
‘Pine Cone’ is an elegant still life. The work’s only focal point, Wolter labours over the pine cone’s sculptural qualities, its evocation of death, trees and seeds, a symbol for life. Represented at the Geelong Gallery, the State Library of Victoria, Parliament of Australia and Victorian College of the Arts, Wolter’s work strikes a chord with all who view it.
