Born in China, Kordelya Zhan Sui Chi graduated from the Fine Arts Institute of Guangzhou in 1986. Now based in Melbourne, she still maintains a studio in China – returning there regularly to work.
Chi has built a following for her expressive and emotive style. In her hand-coloured linocut, she plays portraitist to an Australian animal, capturing it with fondness, personality and a luminous palette.
In testament to her strength as an artist, Chi is a multi-time Archibald finalist, Doug Moran National Portrait Prize and Portia Geach Memorial Award, in which she won the People’s Choice Award in 1995. For collectors of contemporary art and printmaking or recipients with a soft spot for our fauna, Chi is a compelling find.
