Amanda Upton
B. 1965
Amanda Upton is an acclaimed artist and illustrator. She began as a cadet illustrator for the Courier Mail and then Sydney Morning Herald, with her work published in their pages for twenty years. She was included in Luerzers Archive Magazine collection of the world’s best illustrators and was a Walkley Award finalist in 2000.
Upton’s style is unique. Reminiscent of magic realism, she constructs imaginative scenes that are both mystical and mundane. Her characters are misfits, witches and explorers – dignified protagonists of a whimsical world.
