Amanda Upton’s visual world is equal parts whimsical and mysterious. Her characters occupy richly detailed scenes, sometimes fantastical, sometimes familiar. ‘Make A Wish’ decidedly falls into the former camp. It pictures a woman riding a giant fly. She is an explorer, an Amelia Earhart of the insect world. With wit and wonder, Upton injects magic into the everyday.

Upton is an acclaimed artist and illustrator. Her work was included in Luerzers Archive Magazine collection of the world’s best illustrators and she was a Walkley Award finalist in 2000. She began her career as a cadet illustrator for the Courier Mail, then Sydney Morning Herald.

Reminiscent of magic realism, ‘Make A Wish’ is a dream come true for collectors of fantastical art and contemporary works on paper.
