Jeffrey Makin
B. 1943
Jeffrey Makin is a renowned Australian artist who is best known for his landscapes. He continues a tradition set by European masters JMW Turner and John Constable, who too often ventured into plein air to capture their vistas.
Makin's vision can be both delicate and desolate, and sweet and sublime. From the sea to canyons, deserts and rainforest, Makin transcribes the textures and curvatures of Australia's wide land with ample reverence. Specific subjects include the You Yangs, Grampians and Wannon Falls.
Represented in all national, state and most regional collections, Makin is also a multi-time finalist for the Wynne Prize. Parallel to his work an artist, he is also an art critic and academic.
