Karima Baadilla 'Gramoire Book' - Collected by Ben & Bec

Karima Baadilla is an artist of Indonesian heritage currently based in rural Victoria. Working across several mediums, Baadilla is best known for her vibrant paintings that explore parts of her everyday life and shifting migrant identity. Always energetically-charged, her paintings range in subject matter, from landscapes and still life scenes, to candid representations of people and animals.

In ‘Gramoire Book’, Baadilla represents a domestic still-life scene of a table stacked with books, a vase, and a fruit bowl full of citrus. With a title referring to a book of magic spells, Baadilla's sense of humour in this work is palpable - the central 'Gramoire' book is comically given the title ‘Things I Don’t Want to Know’. Through loose, expressive brushstrokes, Baadilla’s classic composition pulsates with a vibrant and playful energy. In her typical painterly style, ‘Gramoire Book’ is a true reflection of the artist's ability to create atmosphere through strong compositions.

Baadilla has been the finalist of numerous prestigious art prizes, including the Paddington Art Prize, the Bayside Acquisitive Prize and the Collie Art Prize. She has exhibited widely across Australia in solo and group exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections within Australia and internationally. For lovers of playful contemporary art, the works of Karima Baadilla are a wonderful addition to any collection.
