Karima Baadilla
Karima Baadilla is an Indonesian-born artist currently based in rural Victoria. Working across mediums including sculpture, drawing, ceramics and textiles, Baadilla is best known for her vibrant paintings that explore parts of her everyday life and shifting migrant identity. Her paintings range from landscapes and still lifes, to candid representations of people and animals.
Baadilla completed her Honours of Fine Art at La Trobe University in 2023 and received the Outstanding Achievement Award for her efforts. She also holds a Bachelor of Fine Art from both Monash University and RMIT. In 2024, she was commissioned by the City of Ballarat for their Craft Lab 24 program.
Baadilla has been the finalist of numerous prestigious art prizes, including the Paddington Art Prize (2022), the Bayside Acquisitive Prize (2020) and the Collie Art Prize (2020). In 2021, she was awarded the Mark Brabham Emerging Artist Award at the Klytie Pate Ceramics Awards (2021). Baadilla has exhibited widely across Australia in solo and group exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections within Australia and internationally.
