Karima Baadilla is an artist of Indonesian heritage currently based in rural Victoria. Working across several mediums, Baadilla is best known for her vibrant paintings that explore parts of her everyday life and shifting migrant identity. Always energetically-charged, her paintings range in subject matter, from landscapes and still life scenes, to candid representations of people and animals.

In ‘Soft places, warm teapot’, Baadilla creates an intimate still-life centred on a purple teapot, set against a backdrop of soft pinks and greens. Built through loose, expressive brushstrokes, the surface is richly layered in oil paint, giving the work a pronounced sense of texture and tactility. Representing a familiar domestic object, Baadilla infuses the composition with a contemporary sensibility that feels both playful and quietly enigmatic.

Baadilla has been the finalist of numerous prestigious art prizes, including the Paddington Art Prize, the Bayside Acquisitive Prize and the Collie Art Prize. She has exhibited widely across Australia in solo and group exhibitions, and her works are held in private collections within Australia and internationally. For lovers of playful contemporary art, the works of Karima Baadilla are a wonderful addition to any collection.
