A Macedonian/Australian contemporary artist, Violeta Capovska works across mediums – printmaking, installation, performance, photography, video and textiles. In her elegant, often abstract configuration, she draws out her cross-cultural experiences of identity, as well as philosophies of nature and gender.

The 2023 linocut work ‘Liberté 3’ features the word ‘Liberté’ and a flower against a striped background. Using a minimal colour palette of soft green and white, this print showcases Capovska’s keen eye for detail. Created during Capovska’s residency at the Cite International in Paris, this print was influenced by her surroundings, referenced through the titular inclusion of ‘Liberté.’ Much like the freedom promised by this title, this print offers a liberating sense of warmth to the viewer.

Capovska's work is represented across public collections including at the National Gallery of Australia, Ballarat Fine Art Gallery, National Gallery of Macedonia, Museum of Contemporary Art- Skopje and Museum of the City of Skopje. She was the recipient of the James Northfield Lithography scholarship in 2016. In 2021 she won a 2 month Artist Residency at the Cite International in Paris.

For lovers of contemporary printmaking, Capovska’s ‘Liberté 3’ is a captivating find.
