Hannah Caprice is a contemporary printmaker based in Melbourne, Victoria. Caprice’s work features eccentric creatures searching for solace and belonging. These themes reflect on her background being raised in a cross-cultural household, where Caprice sought comfort in being an “adaptable misfit.” Her fantastical creatures are an ode to self-acceptance.
“We all fall down” features a domestic scene of a cat toppling a vase of flowers. Capturing a snapshot of the vase suspended in motion, Caprice humorously makes the scene larger than life. Showing the cat’s shocked expression in the shadow of the oversized vase, Caprice transforms a moment of mischief into a spectacle worthy of attention. This etching highlights her eye for detail, capturing this scene intricately with a practised hand.
Caprice has been listed as a finalist in several notable art prizes, including the National Capital Art Prize, Hornsby Art Prize and Geelong Gallery Acquisitive Print Award. She was the recipient of the prestigious Honours Fine Art Travelling Award by RMIT on completion of her degree. Caprice’s work features in the collections of the Gippsland Art Gallery, the Australian Print Workshop and Baldessin Studio and Press. Caprice’s whimsical prints capture a sense of wonder, making them a joyful find for any collector of printmaking.
For lovers of Australian print-making, Caprice’s “We all fall down,” is a captivating find.
