Warren Cooke is a contemporary printmaker and artist based on the Mornington Peninsula. Drawing inspiration from the natural world around him, Cooke creates intimate portraits of his local area, capturing the chaos and vibrancy of the Victorian coastline. In recent years, his printmaking practice has incorporated the reduction woodcut technique. This technique is visible across the surfaces of his prints, in some cases revealing the texture of the wood in the final print.

In 'Land and Sea #44' the distant land in the horizon is engulfed by sea and sky, appearing as a solitary focal point in the vivid blues. Cooke’s fascination with the ocean stems from the theory that this is our universal starting place - “the ocean as our origin”. As with many of his works, 'Land and Sea #44' intimately reflects the artist’s relationship with the area in which he lives.

Cooke is an acclaimed printmaker, featuring in several Australian and international collections. Some notable career highlights include a solo exhibition at Benalla Regional Art Gallery and being recognised as a finalist in the Fremantle Print Prize, Burnie Print Prize and Silk Cut Awards.
