John Cullinane’s work is drawn from media, books, stories and observed moments. He conjures an atmosphere, mise en scenes that are rich in feeling and narrative. Before his work viewers are compelled to ponder, allowing their mind to wind up, as the artist describes, “in a place that they would have never considered… “Hey, how did I get here?””.

In the atmospheric ‘Early Morning’, a man slinks from a bed. Is he making an escape or maintaining the peace? Outside, the first blush of sun arrives while the street lamps still twinkle. A master of narrative and composition, ‘Early Morning’ invites the viewer to continue the day with their own story.
