John Cullinane’s work is drawn from media, books, stories and observed moments. He conjures an atmosphere, mise en scenes that are rich in feeling and narrative. Before his work viewers are compelled to ponder, allowing their mind to wind up, as the artist describes, “in a place that they would have never considered… “Hey, how did I get here?””.

In ‘Sunday Walk’, an original pastel drawing, two distant figures take a walk one lilac-skied Sunday. Another rests of a park bench in the foreground. A master of tone and composition, Cullinane’s work evokes a sense of nostalgia as though recalling a moment from the collective imagination.

Represented at the National Gallery of Australia, Art Gallery of Western Australia, Parliament House as well as numerous tertiary and council galleries, Cullinane is a collectable and distinct artist. Inventive yet subtle, ‘Sunday Walk’ is for collectors of contemporary and figurative art, strollers and the ones you love.
