Kari Henriksen is a Melbourne-based artist renowned for her luminous landscapes and seascapes that explore the interplay of light, sky, and time. Her paintings function as poetic meditations on place, capturing the fleeting atmospheres of weather and the subtle transformations that shape our experience of the landscape.
In ‘Lost Horizon’, Henriksen creates a richly detailed and evocative oil painting that is instantly atmospheric. Capturing a morning fog over a mountain range, this painting was crafted during Henriksen’s artist residency at Bundanon in New South Wales. As with many of her paintings, ‘Indigo Sky’ demonstrates Henriksen’s enduring fascination with light and weather, and her interest in how these transitional elements impact our relationship with the environment. Skillfully painted, this work is alive with a sense of quiet drama - from the fog a mountain crest emerges, a rainbow softly appears.
Henriksen has been selected as a finalist in several major art prizes, and she has exhibited in both solo and group shows in Australia and internationally. Her paintings are currently held in public and private collections across Australia and overseas. For lovers of atmospheric landscapes, or those fascinated with contemporary Australian artists, Henriksen’s work are a wonderful discovery.
