Mark Howson was a founding member of Roar Studios - one of Melbourne's earliest artist-run-initiatives. A proverbial roar against the art establishment, Roar artists championed rebellious, instinctual and figurative art.

In his role, Howson creates deceptively minimal images. Pared back to shape and colour, Childsplay II is an experimentation in texture, composition and the viewers interpretation. What do you see in these carefully arranged forms?

A sculptor, printmaker and painter, Howson is represented at numerous public collections including the Australian National Gallery and National Gallery of Victoria, as well as New Parliament House and Art Bank. He has received sculpture commissions from the National Gallery of Australia.

Inspired by the everyday and influenced by mid-century modernism, Howson revels in visual play. This work will delight collectors of prints, Roar and minimal art with a twist.
