Jordan "Jordy" Kerwick is considered to be one of Australia's most compelling contemporary painters. Since serendipitously adopting painting in 2016, Kerwick has masterfully captured the attention of audiences in Australia and internationally. Drawing inspiration from French modernist icons like Henri Matisse and Vincent van Gogh, Kerwick's has developed a distinct and unique visual language, one rich in vibrant colours, boldly defined shapes, and classical imagery.
One of Kerwick's most celebrated subjects is that of still life flowers, and his 2019 painting 'Thee Oh Sees' is a testament to why this is. With bright yellow flowers appearing luminous against a deep navy blue background, Kerwick creates a scene that is rich in contrast. In his signature artistic style, Kerwick combines graphic simplicity with bold and painterly mark-making.
Since becoming an artist in 2016, Kerwick has exhibited extensively across the United States, Europe, Asia, Australia, and the Middle East. His work is held in numerous public and private collections worldwide. For collectors of contemporary painting, and those fascinated by the future of Australian art, Kerwick is one to watch.
