Jasper Knight takes after pop masters of the past. Rather than starlets however, he pictures icons of industry – beams, machinery, buildings and lighthouses. Found on the city’s outskirts, these images trade in an unexpected dichotomy: urban detritus rendered in oozing, technicolour excess.
In ‘Cubana Roja’, Knight turns to one of his favourite subjects: cars. In it, a red vintage car confronts the viewer, its headlights like a reptile’s eyes. Dripping with paint, Knight presents a mechanical form as tactical, bold and visceral.
Knight has been a finalist in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes. Using bright, flat blocks of colour dripping in paint to depict his subjects, Knights style is distinctive and bold. This vivid vessel will add an edge to your space, enriching collectors of contemporary, pop art and vintage cars.
