Jasper Knight
B. 1978
Celebrated Australian contemporary artist Jasper Knight focuses on the urban landscape. In oozing, bold, vividly-coloured paint, he transforms relics of industry into technicolour icons. Co-opting found debris alongside painterly techniques, Knight asserts the objects of industrialisation as portals into the past, worthy of artistic investigation. Bending the boundary between constructed object and painting, and high and low art, his work smacks of a post-pop art sensibility.
A finalist for the Wynne, Archibald and Sulman prizes, Knight's work is held in collections within Australia including the National Gallery of Australia and various state and regional galleries.
