Jasper Knight takes after pop masters of the past. Rather than starlets however, he pictures icons of industry – beams, machinery, buildings and lighthouses. Found on the city’s outskirts, these images trade in an unexpected dichotomy: urban detritus rendered in oozing, technicolour excess.
‘Three Windows’ is recognisably by Knight. He pictures a boat abstracted on blue ground, its three little windows at the side allow for the sailor to see the sea. Dripping with paint, this work is a maritime subject in an urban style.
Knight has been a finalist in the Archibald, Wynne and Sulman prizes. Using bright, flat blocks of colour dripping in paint to depict his subjects, Knights style is cool and bold. This vivid vessel will add an edge to your space, enriching collections of contemporary and pop art.
