Marie Mansfield 'Return to Sender' - Collected by Mark

Marie Mansfield's work centres around people and places in an unexpected dance. Her paintings are often devoid of people, yet alive with traces of their presence – a spectral energy that conjures melancholy, nostalgia and bemusement.

In 'Return to Sender', a forlorn letter lays open on an empty table. With this simple composition, Mansfield captures the longing or sorrow in a missed connection. Imbuing her art with a sense of mystery, the artist invites contemplation – what did the letter say and who was its intended recipient?

Mansfield is an esteemed contemporary artist. In 2021 she won the Portia Geach portrait prize for women and in 2020 completed a residency at Bundanon. She is also a Doug Moran, Archibald and Mosman Prize finalist. For collectors of contemporary art, still lives and female artists, Mansfield is an elegant find.
