In Kathryn Ryan's work, landscapes take on a sensuous resonance. Set in the space between night and day, her scenes are at once bold and subtle - evoking the suggestive poetry of the land.
Here, she traces the velvety silhouette of trees at dusk. Ryan's technique renders the paddock liquid and the tree's foliage blurred, as though the earth is spinning faster and faster.
An esteemed contemporary artist, Ryan is the subject of a monograph and was celebrated in 2015 with a major retrospective at The Warrnambool Art Gallery. Dividing her time between the United Arab Emirates and Australia, her bold yet subtle imagery is avidly collected and she is multi-time Wynne Prize finalist.
