In Kathryn Ryan's work, landscapes take on a sensuous resonance. Set in the space between night and day, her scenes are at once bold and subtle - evoking the suggestive poetry of the land.
In her 2016 series 'Hopkin's River Shadow', she traces the velvety silhouette of tree against a stark white sky. Ryan's technique renders the foliage atmospherically blurred, as though landscape has been captured mid-storm.
An esteemed contemporary artist, Ryan is the subject of a monograph and was celebrated in 2015 with a major retrospective at The Warrnambool Art Gallery. Dividing her time between the United Arab Emirates and Australia, her bold yet subtle imagery is avidly collected and she is multi-time Wynne Prize finalist.
