Jim Thalassoudis’s enduring fascination with Melbourne’s iconic Little Audrey, or Skipping Girl Vinegar, finds new form in ‘Little Audrey Skipping Over Melbourne’. It is the fruit of the artist's desire to see Little Audrey skip across the Melbourne skyline, a pursuit that saw him in negotiation with an Art Deco apartment block for six months. When he was finally granted access onto its rooftop, he climbed atop an outhouse to witness a view of “perfection”. There Little Audrey was, dancing across the city.

Thalassoudis is considered one of the country’s foremost colourists. He studies the undulating palette of the sky, forcing the viewer to raise their eyes to where the setting sun and urban pollution tinge the clouds yellow, pink, blue and purple. The Little Audrey series pays tribute to a Melbourne landmark, our cultural fascination with nostalgia and neon signs, and the play of light and season in perception.

Adelaide-based Thalassoudis has been exhibiting regularly since the mid-1980s. Finalist in the 2015 edition of the Wynne Prize, the artist has attained curatorial and collectors’ following. His works have been acquired by notable public, corporate and private collections in Australia and abroad. For collectors of contemporary art, ‘Little Audrey Skipping Over Melbourne’ is a breathtaking view.
