Alun Leach-Jones
B. 1937 - 2017
Alun Leach-Jones was born in Lancashire, England and arrived in Australia in 1960. A painter and printmaker, he was an important figure in what was called the 'New Abstraction' movement in Australian art. In 1968 Leach-Jones participated in the National Gallery of Victoria's landmark exhibition, 'The Field', contributing his own idiosyncratic brand of abstraction. Envisioning open fields of vibrant colour dotted with random forms, Leach-Jones's work is like music to the eye.
A celebrated figure of Australian art, he is represented in numerous national and international collections, including: the Museum of Modern Art and Solomon R Guggenheim Museum in New York; the Victoria and Albert Museum and British Museum in London; the National Gallery of Australia; and Australian state galleries.
