John Peart
B. 1945 - 2013.
John Peart was an abstract Australian artist born in Brisbane. He created lyrical abstract compositions that skilfully play with both positive and negative space. This experimentation with style and media created unique and spontaneous imagery that evokes the feeling of a landscape, creating what Peart described as, “an inner landscape for the mind's eye to roam”.
Peart’s work is represented at all State galleries as well as a number of other collections, both locally and internationally. He won the Wynne Prize in 1997, and the the Sulman Prize in 2000, the same year that he was a finalist for the Archibald Prize.
