Evie Cahir

Evie Cahir is a Melbourne-based artist who is best known for her vibrant works on paper. Raised Ballarat, Cahir completed a degree in Illustration at the Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE in 2013, and she has since exhibited across Australia. Evie’s work demonstrates a unique vision, a nuanced engagement with materials and an acute observation of her surroundings – whether in nature or a domestic setting. Working in both abstract and representational idioms, this dual approach to image making demonstrates the breadth of her technical skills and reveals a mind that is deeply engaged with both minutia and sensation as a response to her immediate environment.

Drawing inspiration from Fauvism, an art movement characterised by its emphasis on bold use of colour, Cahir is best known for her highly gestural works that employ vibrant, expressive colours. Working with gels, gouache, hand-ground pigments and acrylic paint, Cahir creates atmospheric works representing intimate, light-filled scenes of contemporary life.

Her work has shown in solo and group exhibitions across major cities and regional centres, including Melbourne, Perth and Sydney. She has been a finalist in several national prizes, including the 2025 Hazlehurst Works on Paper Prize, 2024 Greenway Art Prize and the 2023 Elaine Bermingham Watercolour Prize.
